The Thing That Needs to Happen to Find Lasting Weight Loss Success

Have you ever thrown money at a program or product that you think is going to be the solution to your health and wellness struggles, only to find yourself exactly in the same place you’ve always been?

Which is stuck.

You jump from one thing to the next hoping that eventually something will stick. 

But it never does…

Because lasting change is not going to be found in following someone else’s rules.

Period.

There will never be a simple solution or a quick fix.

Period.

And you will never get your body to look like someone else’s. 

Period. 

But that doesn’t mean all hope is lost.

Because contrary to what you might believe, you can (and should) be making your own rules when it comes to the food you eat and the exercise you do.

After all, you are the only one who truly knows yourself.

You know what you like, you know what you don’t like, and your body tells you what it needs and when it needs it…

And following someone else's rules for "rapid weight loss" will never allow you to honor that. 

So, it's up to you to learn how to listen to it a little closer and honor what it’s telling you.

And most importantly, it's time to accept the reality that lasting change is not going to come without consistent effort on your part.

As in, some sort of effort every day for the rest of your life.

Don't worry...the effort doesn't always feel like effort. And when your efforts start to feel easy, that will be your cue to put forth different effort in order to level up, but that's a conversation for another day.  😘

If your goal is to get to a healthy weight, you are going to have to start building healthy habits that you intend to keep around for the long haul. 

Healthy habits like:

  • Consuming a balanced diet that consists mainly of real, minimally processed food most of the time. Think: meat, potatoes, fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, seeds, etc.
  • Moving your body every day in a way that feels good for you.
  • Building systems and routines into your life that will allow you to prioritize your health and wellness. Think: regular meal planning and grocery shopping and scheduling in workouts. 
  • Sitting with yourself and getting to know what you really want and why you want it…

The last one is probably the most important because if you don’t really know what you are working for and why you are working for it, you will always be chasing someone else’s body or someone else’s life… and that is going to land you nowhere fast.

I think that is why I love Hebrews 12:1-2 so much…

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…”

It reminds me that we each have our own race to run… set out before us by God.  

We weren't put on this Earth to run anyone else’s race but our own… 

And while the context of this particular verse is instructing us to let go of the sin and burdens that are holding us back from becoming the disciples that God has called us to be, it is also a great reminder that we are to let go of the things that are holding us back from living up to our fullest, God-given potential…

It’s a reminder to let go of things like procrastination, self-loathing, self-righteousness, laziness, complacency, perfectionism, gluttony, fear, greed, envy, jealousy, and hatred so we can live a life of purpose, joy, and God-given fulfillment. 

And these things are not easy to let go of because they are all human-nature.

But…if you spend some time really thinking about what you want and why you want it, and inviting Jesus to weigh in on it all, the entire thing shifts.

It stops becoming about what your body looks like, and it becomes more about how you feel in your body. 

  • It becomes more about building a lifestyle that allows you to be a present mom who is setting the example of what healthy living looks like for your family.
  • It becomes more about aging well so you can live a vibrant, healthy, mobile life well into your golden years…
  • It becomes more about building strength and stamina and pushing yourself to new levels… 

And less about how thin you are.

You learn to untangle your worth from the size of your jeans or the number on the scale, and begin to see the bigger picture. 

A picture that goes beyond body aesthetics and vanity metrics.

And this one perspective shift can change it all.

And this perspective shift doesn’t come in a one-size-fits-all quick-and-easy approach… 

It takes trial and error, and do-overs galore… and that is why I created the Habits + Heartwork Academy.

To give you the tools, resources, and space to find clarity around your health and wellness goals and the support you need to help you reach them by helping you build systems and routines that will allow you to make your health a higher priority in your life.

But the tools only work if you do, friend.  

Just throwing money at a membership each month isn’t going to get you the change you’re after until you start putting in the effort to make the changes you need to make.
